A first-person account of the horrors of the Jasenovac concentration camp in Yugoslavia by a survivor of the “Balkan Holocaust.” Ilija Ivanovic was thirteen years old when, during WWII, the Roman Catholic majority in Southern Yugoslavia sided with the Nazis and formed a puppet state calling itself the Independent State of Croatia (ISC).

After outlawing all religions besides Roman Catholicism and Islam, the Roman Catholics, led by priests, monks, and nuns, began the savage “purging” of the minority Eastern Orthodox Serbs along with Jews, Gypsies, and anyone else who opposed the Nazi regime or was considered an enemy of the Roman Catholic church. By some accounts, over 1,700,000 Serbs were killed, many in the Jasenovac concentration camp, the third-largest in all of Europe.
