Trent was the last of the three greatest Roman Catholic ecumenical councils, and is the basis for Roman Catholic canon law and the Catholic Catechism. Held between 1545 to 1563, the council condemned Martin Luther and Protestant doctrine, and placed the reformers under more than one hundred curses.
